Business Development Manager
£80,000 - £95,000Chronos Energy is working in close partnership with a leading developer and operator of district heating schemes across the UK. The organisation operates large-scale heat networks in major cities and towns nationwide.
We are seeking a Business Development Manager who will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new customers for existing heat networks across the North and Midlands.
The role involves expanding network connections, securing grant funding, managing commercial risks, and leading contract negotiations. The ideal candidate will bring strong stakeholder engagement experience, sound business development acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical, financial, and governance teams to deliver tailored, commercially viable solutions for new customers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Identify, develop, and convert new customer connections to existing heat networks in line with business plan targets
Manage the full lifecycle of growth opportunities, from initial identification through to financial close
Collaborate with internal teams to develop fully costed, commercially robust proposals
Support the expansion of heat networks, including decarbonisation initiatives
Manage and grow existing customer relationships to drive further network connections
Lead and coordinate grant funding applications to secure financial support for network expansion
Identify and manage key commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle
Work closely with commercial teams to develop competitive and commercially sound propositions
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, local authorities, external stakeholders, and industry bodies
Tailor solutions and product offerings to meet customer needs while aligning with business objectives
Support contract negotiations with customers in line with internal governance frameworks
Skills and Experience:
Proven experience in business development, commercial sales, or contract negotiation within energy, utilities, or infrastructure
Experience in low-carbon energy or district heating projects
Strong understanding of heat networks, decarbonisation, and energy solutions
Experience securing grant funding and financial incentives
Ability to identify and manage commercial risks across project lifecycles
Strong negotiation skills, including contract structuring and deal closure
Experience working with technical, financial, and legal teams to develop costed proposals
Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
Knowledge of UK government funding schemes for heat networks and energy efficiency
